2018 Artist Initiative Grant
My biggest piece of news for this upcoming year is I was awarded an Artist Initiative Grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. The Grant period starts in March of 2018 and will run through
March of 2019. I will be using the Grant funding to explore some new materials and finishing methods. Most specifically I will be experimenting with a toothy red stoneware, slips, and fire on
decals. I am interested in creating a body of work that parallels and also contrasts with my current porcelain work. In August of 2018 I will have an exhibition at
Ripple River Gallery in Aitkin, MN. This exhibition will feature work made during the first half of the
Grant period. Along the way I will be sharing my process on Instagram and Facebook as I work through testing new clay bodies, slips, and glazes. At the culmination of the Grant period I will
be sharing all of the recipes and techniques on my website along with a final virtual exhibition of work on my website.
This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature; and by
a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
